First trip to Thailand, Bangkok to Hua Hin

Hyatt Recency Hua Hin Birthday welcome

TW is working today but nothing requiring him to be there in person. Our day starts with breakfast. Then we pack up our stuff to get ready for check out. Luckily we have a late check out but it is best to be ready now. TW then he sets about working. We have a late check out and a transfer down to Hua Hin for the next part of TW’s birthday celebration.

Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok

We walk from Park Hyatt to Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, dragging our bags through shopping centers and up and around overpasses. There is a Hyatt provided shuttle down to Hua Hin, which is a very reasonable price given it is 3.5 hours between the two. This is the route we have chosen and because we are stingy we walked between the two hotels. Our next stop is Hyatt Regency Hua Hin.

A card, a petal message and an actual gift in the closet. Well two gifts. A medium and a large. To commemorate our stay here. My new favourite t-shirt.

We did again get a free upgrade. The best thing about this upgrade is we used points to book the room. So we got a free upgrade on a free stay. The room is awesome. We have our own little outdoor area with a private entrance to the pool. It is the main pool but still. Our own space to relax.

The inside is also pretty nice. We do again have a separate lounge room. The bathroom here is not a Park Hyatt bathroom but we aren’t at a Park Hyatt so…

More gifts. Fresh fruit, dried fruit and cheese crackers with pineapple jam.

We arrived at the hotel just in time to catch the evening drinks and canap├ęs. So we went to the lounge and had some snacks.

After our snacks we went to see the beach. There is a fake beach at the pool and the real beach just a few steps away. It is evening so we don’t have much light but I still manage to get a photo of the slide. TW is very excited to go on the slide. The pool is only open until 6:30pm so we have missed it for today but tomorrow, he will be on that slide for sure.

On check in we were told about the night markets that run on weekends just in front of the hotel. Our activity guide says they are the best in town, though it would right? Anyway, we head up to the markets to check them out.

Hua Hin night markets

There is food, nicknacks, some really cute things, lots of art and artists, henna and temporary tattoos plus a host of things that will be personalised for you while you wait.

There is a huge bar and a band playing in what I can only assume is the Sasi Open air Theatre. The evening is gorgeous. A perfect temperature, no real humidity, the gentle strum on a guitar of easy listening music. There is a slight hum of people buying things in the markets behind us and cheering at the end of each song from everyone in the theatre.

The food options are looking nice and fresh. Quickly we realise that we need cash to buy food. We have no Thai cash on us, however. Well, we do have a little bit, not enough for what TW would want to eat. We can plan better and regroup for tomorrow.
