To be fair to both bands, I know Barenaked Ladies better but not necessarily more songs of theirs. BNL were the opening act and sadly the stadium wasn’t full and didn’t really fill for their set. I took a timelapse expecting a similar rush of the crowd to their seats as we experienced just nights before with Queen and in Singapore for Ed Sheeran. It didn’t quite happen but I took a time lapse not knowing.

Hootie did get them back on stage towards the end of their set so they did get to perform to the full crowd, as during their own set BNL said “it is every performers dream to play to a partially filled Madison Square Garden”. Man they were hilarious. I feel we got two full concerts plus a comedy act for the price of our ticket. Really good value. To the credit of BNL and I think it might be a rule for the support act but they started exactly on time and finished to the second. There was half an hour for the stage to be reset after their performance. During that half hour we were approached by MSG staff offering us tickets in sections far closer but fairly empty. We ummed and ahhed about it for ages but eventually said yes. We’ll, we said yes after she said if we don’t like it we can return. The issue being our seats were kind of great. No one in front, no one behind, a desk to lean on and decent views. The offer was to pretty much where we watched Queen from but further forward. So our debate was, would that be better. We realised after we said yes that we were actually one section further around behind the stage when we watched Queen so these seats were actually the ones we were saying would have been killer to watch Queen from.I had to zoom out to wide view with my phone to get the whole stage in the photo. Yeah, these were pretty awesome seats. It was fun. The sound was better. We were right near the major set up for the speakers so you would expect it to be loud. Up in our original area I kept saying I think we are behind the speakers, it didn’t seem as loud or live as it had been for Queen. I wasn’t sure though, it was possible that the crowd was just too busy chatting amongst themselves as this was just the opening act. I could hear the band but it was hard to hear them over everyone’s conversations.

That was certainly not an issue with the seats we had to hootie and the blowfish.

We are so incredibly lucky to be able to do what we do. It is almost ridiculous to also have these random acts of upgraded experiences just offered to us. The flight upgrade and this viewing upgrade. It was a great last night in New York.

Excited to be leaving though. I wouldn’t want to live in New York. It was great for this trip and the things we wanted to do and checking out if it is a liveable city for us. It isn’t, we both agree now, and now that we have that worked out we never have to consider it again.
