HHI – tug of war in Singapore

Just after our HHI filming in Singapore another couple submitted paperwork to the building owner for permission to film. One day the building manager was discussing with the couple as Triston walked past. He told them we had just filmed and they should speak to Triston – hey here he is – and myself. A few days later, while I was in the process of bleaching the house for cat and her ringworm/allergy, I had a knock on the door. The wife on the couple came to introduce herself and we generally discussed the process. I told her I was pretty sure we kept failing the audition video but we didn’t have a working stabiliser and now we do. If they would like to borrow it they were more than welcome to. By that time we had received our DJI Osmo mobile 2. They did borrowed it. I watched some of their audition video. It was a lot better than ours. HHI bringing expats together Also, they are American. We think the show does make …

House Hunters International – stage six

We aren’t actors, we haven’t had lessons or classes or any kind of education in this. We have had notes and feedback but we don’t know how to translate them to actions for our House Hunters International audition and application. It feels like we are failing even though they keep lowering the bar for us. Sigh. The process has taught us and given us practice but did we manage to learn those things in time to be successful? It does place us better for next time but what about this time? I don’t know when, where, what the next time might be. I wonder if I should email her and let her know we will practice, take lessons or do anything she recommends. Is that what they would want? We will know by the end of the week, words that echo through my mind constantly while we wait to find out. Waiting isn’t stressful nor is it exciting. Waiting for the final decision from House Hunters International and the network We can’t change what we …

House Hunters International – stage five

We are slowly progressing with our house hunters international audition/application. Or maybe we are constantly heading for the bin but Singapore is so hot they really want to get us on, if only we weren’t so boring? Monday comes, we stay up. We did a workout, a big exhausting workout. Got to get TV ready, don’t you know. It has been a long day and we are both a bit over it to be honest. We just want to go to bed. The work out was in the morning but we don’t have the energy to still be up. Well, that isn’t a great combination. There is no need to be TV ready if we don’t get picked because we are too boring to watch. Being exhausted and just sitting there wanting to go to sleep doesn’t seem like the best plan. She lets us know the pitch will happen that day or Tuesday. The pitch to the network, she had already pitched us internally and people loved our story, but… can we talk to …

House Hunters International – stage four

It turns out I didn’t have to wait long. On my Wednesday morning, following the Friday submission, I had an email. All of our House Hunters paperwork has been approved but can we just update something in the video. Our house tour portion was shocking and she asked us if we could redo it. Rightly so. I let her know we were now in Hong Kong for a couple of days but we would do it as soon as we got back. Do it as she asked. We would need to buy a selfie stick, I guess we could have gotten a third person to help but it is all kind of hush hush at this point so it is a bit awkward to ask someone and not explain why. There were other questions, around our availability. And a suggestion that filming was from any time in the next 3 months. Oh My God. We have eaten way too much and not gone to the gym at all, like we were supposed to. We need …

House Hunters International – stage three

At 6:48 am my gmail updated to say one new email. Not many people have my Gmail so it tends to be spam. I clicked to the tab to delete the spam and there it was. House Hunters International. Woo hoo, I got something! I checked my main email and it was there too, in my junk email. I moved it straight away, how rude of my email. Gah! I have replied to her past emails, how can you trash further correspondence? 100% this is not trash! Damn filter. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. Yay, we officially made it to the House Hunters International video/audition stage Saturday morning we went about starting to film the video application that is required. Triston was in a mood so we called it off. We didn’t even get more than 100m away from our place before he threw his tantrum. It was pretty disappointing. I had been so happy and excited and he just ruined my day. Sunday we tried again. We filmed a bit with our compact camera …

House Hunters International – stage two

With the house hunters international phone appointment locked in, we actually managed to have the Skype call. It lasted about 20 minutes and shortly after we got an email. The email had the full application form attached. Well, it came over as 5 pages of questions and went back as 24/25 with my answers. I have read people say theirs went back as 9 or 10. Maybe their forms were different. If I didn’t go into detail, I would say the responses would have made it 20 pages. But the email specifically asked for detail. Your job in answering is to give the producer as much information as possible so they can look through what is there to build an episode. You might think your story is unique and wonderful but after all of the episodes on air and cast, it might not be so unique to the production company. So fill that baby out with as many options of different stories as you can think of. Filling out the house hunters application form Why …

House Hunters International – initial application

In September 2018, before our December move to Singapore, I started the initial application for House Hunters International. I wasn’t sure if that was too late given it would take a lot of effort and coordination. All I did was email. There is a seperate application for House Hunters and House Hunters International so if you are reading this because you are looking to apply, make sure you use the right method (on the links above). At that time we didn’t know it was a reenactment show. So when December came and we hadn’t heard back from them, we assumed that we were not selected. Which was fine. Then January hits, we have just moved out of the Andaz in Singapore and into our new apartment. Months after our initial application, an email Literally just a few days after our move, I get an email. Did we move and have we found an apartment? Are we still interested? Yes, yes and most definitely yes. We set up a time for a Skype call, I have …

The joys of randomness

We shared our house hunters international episode with friends and family. Super awkward, kind of embarrassing but still fun and cool and unique. While tonnes of people have done it, it still isn’t that many people. I guess with all the reality TV shows around the world a lot of people now have insight into the TV production world. It is super interesting. Friends set up with popcorn or lunch or dinner sat down to watch. I assume laugh at us but that is the point. Some may yell at the TV, we were aiming for that. We love watching the show and yelling at the TV and then googling to see if they survive… Because your always sure it will end in tragedy. No happy couple has ever been on and that one time one was, they were so boring. Ruining it for all the other people who wanted to portray a happy couple. So we brought some smiles to the face of people we know. Much more than we expected when we applied. …

HHI – our episode

We got the official link to watch our HHI episode a couple of days ago. Triston was away with work so we didn’t watch it until last night. *CRINGE*. It wasn’t as bad as we were expecting given we both had the flu and I also had extreme endometriosis pain. I was trying to manage it but failing. Thanks HHI for buying us our first Singapore Chilli Crab Well the chilli crab scene basically played out as it did in real life. We were in the hot sun and had to wait a little for the cameras to be set up. We both got pretty irritable. Triston literally didn’t hear me at all when he was playing with the chilli crab shell. The waitress came over at one point and asked if we needed lessons on eating the crab. Which we did and still do but that was half of the joke. If you know how to eat one you will know we sucked at it. We ate at Jumbo Seafood. I think it is …
